A gratitude

November 23, 2011

A little over five years ago, when I was fresh out of seminary and beginning pastoral ministry, our conference ministers looked for a mentor with whom I could meet until ordination.  I was matched with Steve Goering, co-pastor along with his wife Susan, of Columbus Mennonite Church.  We met regularly during those first couple years, and, after ordination, have continued to meet as our relationship blossomed into a friendship.  Along the way we’ve discovered that not only do we share an affinity for one another, but our congregations do as well.  This Sunday we’ll be doing a pulpit exchange as Steve will be preaching at CMF and I’ll be up at CMC – unabashedly slipping a brief plug for Mennonite Arts Weekend into the sermon.

One of the things I’m grateful for this Thanksgiving are the many mentors who bless and teach us, and for friendships that span generational differences.

A Happy Thanksgiving to you.
