Bluffton visit

October 19, 2007

I’m back in town after a very good week up at Bluffton University.  I had a chance to sit down with different faculty, staff, and administrative leadership as well as some students.  A number of people came up to me sharing their family or friendship ties to Cincinnati folks…many good connections there.  One of the highlights was getting to sit down to lunch with students interested in pursuing church ministry and sharing about my own experience of call and hearing some of their questions and thoughts.  I also had a chance to bring the chapel message yesterday.  One of the things that impresses me about Bluffton is that it is a Mennonite university with a very diverse student body from different church and non-church backgrounds.  The Anabaptist witness there is not an ethnic identity as much as a theological identity that is reaching the ears of many students who otherwise wouldn’t be exposed to the values of peace, service, and community. This Sunday John Kampen will be bringing the message on the theme of Wisdom.

“Does not wisdom call, and does not understanding raise her voice?  On the heights, beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand…Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold; for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.” Proverbs 8:1-2,10-11.
