March 25, 2010

Before coming over to Peace House today the girls had me marching around our house with them singing various Christmas songs very loudly.  Pretty fun, but a little out of step with the Christian calendar, I thought.  Richard Rohr set me straight, however.  He points out that today, March 25th, can be considered a “hidden Christmas,” nine months from the day that we celebrate the birth of Christ.  In order for a visible birth to take place, there must first be a life forming within us, invisible for perhaps even months, but there nonetheless, already conceived and growing into something beyond our knowing.  This was the gift to Mary.  Even now, as we approach the despair of Good Friday, a hidden life might already be forming within us.  What a wonderful thought.
